Educating and inspiring clients and therapists to connect with the garden as a therapeutic medium, and supporting them to develop confidence, self-esteem and ownership in their garden and gardening skills.
Focusing on the whole person and their capacity for healthy relationships with themselves, with nature and with others.
Encouraging clients to participate and express their needs within the garden context, and helping them to make the links with gardening and personal recovery / wellbeing.
Sharing skills and knowledge related to organic horticultural practices such as sowing seeds, setting out plants, planting out, lawn mowing, soil preparation, pruning, garden design and long term health of the garden.
Working creatively and imaginatively to devise and coordinate regular themed workshops and experiential processes for encouraging clients to engage with the garden environment and their own recovery process.
More specifically :
Facilitating the design and management of gardens with clients.
Facilitating understanding of soil inputs – organic fertilisers, lime etc.
Communicating with the clients regarding required budget for garden related materials.
Advice in purchasing necessary tools, raw materials and equipment, as well as educating clients in how to use tools and materials safely.
To be aware of and responsible of health and safety issues.
Developing the long term potential of the clients garden as a resource for others either physically through visits or virtually through publications.
Participating in feedback gathering as well as evaluative processes of the garden activities by facilitating regular meetings with therapists and clients.
Helping to foster the development of open, teamwork approach with clients and therapists.
